More quality-of-life improvements shipped today: The **Quick Trail Finder** now returns 9 trails sorted by distance (#1 closest to #9 farthest) instead of grouped Easy/Medium/Hard categories. Fitness levels have also been updated across the board — Intermediate (5–15 mi / 1,000–2,500 ft), Expert (15–25 mi / 2,500–5,000 ft), and Elite (25+ mi / 5,000+ ft). Solo hikers can now use the new **"Move to Profile"** button on any trail card to pin an upcoming hike directly to their profile. Each pinned trail supports a planned date, drag-to-reorder priority, a shareable link for friends, and a one-tap "I Hiked This" button that logs the hike and moves it to your Completed Trails automatically. Finally, every completed trail — whether it's a community event, private group hike, or solo log — now shows a **"Log your stats"** nudge so you never forget to record your miles and elevation. Stats can be entered inline without leaving the page. More updates coming soon. Hit the trail. 🥾

Big improvements dropped tonight across the board: Trail Search Accuracy Trail data is now cross-referenced against three real-world sources — USFS National Forest System trails, OpenStreetMap, and Recreation.gov — in addition to AI generation. Trails verified by the US Forest Service now display a USFS Verified badge. Permit links are validated against Recreation.gov and clearly labeled as confirmed or AI-estimated. Free trail info links now route directly to the correct Forest Service page for each trail. All Three Search Modes Updated The Quick Trail Finder, Detailed Trail Finder, and Search for a Specific Trail all now benefit from the same accuracy improvements, verified badges, and enriched permit data. Community Corrections See something wrong on a trail card? Hit Report Incorrect Info to submit a correction. All submissions are reviewed by our team before going live. Legal & Transparency We've added a full Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, FTC affiliate disclosure on gear recommendations, OSM data attribution, and a data accuracy disclaimer on all trail results. All users are required to accept the Terms of Service to continue using the app. Trail data is AI-generated and cross-referenced with official sources — always verify conditions with the land management agency before your trip. 🥾

March 23, 2026 — New Features & Updates Added a "Use My Location" button to both the Quick Trail Finder and Detailed Trail Finder. When tapped in a real browser (Chrome, Safari), it detects your location, auto-fills your City and State, and sorts trail results by distance — closest trails first, with a distance badge on each card. Also updated the search limits for free users: 5 Quick Trail Finder searches per day and 1 Detailed Trail Finder search. Both plan cards now show a clear breakdown of what's included at each level. The Upgrade button has been fixed and now goes directly to checkout.

March 23, 2026 — Updates & Bug Fixes New Features Product links now available — easily access recommended gear directly from the checklist to view details and purchase. Improvements Affiliate products are now correctly grouped by gear category — Fire Maple Cooking System and Hotdevil Isobutane moved to Food & Water, Black Diamond Storm 500 headlamp moved to Navigation & Safety. Gear checklist item layout improved on mobile — AI-generated weight estimates no longer overlap item names on smaller screens. Bug Fixes Fixed the "Upgrade to Pro →" button incorrectly routing users to their profile page instead of the Stripe checkout. Clicking upgrade now takes you directly to checkout.

Fixed the "Permit Required" badge so it now correctly appears on the Wonderland Trail and all other permit trails. Added a clickable external link icon to the permit badge that opens the relevant Recreation.gov or NPS permit application page directly from the trail card. Added a gold "Lottery" pill badge and application window dates to lottery-based trails like the Wonderland Trail and Half Dome so users know exactly when to apply. Added a "View on Map" button to each campsite recommendation that opens a Google Maps search in a new tab. Added a "Check Availability" link next to every campsite that routes to Recreation.gov's campsite search for the area. Added a packing weight estimator to the Gear Checklist with an optional lbs field per item, a running total badge in the header, and color-coded warnings based on trail difficulty. Added AI-estimated weights for every gear item fetched in a single batch call, displayed as a blue chip to the left of the manual entry field, with dual AI vs. user totals at the bottom of each gear category. Overhauled the PDF export to generate a clean Day-by-Day Itinerary format with consolidated daily cards, pack weight summary, and gear checklist replacing the old separate food and mileage sections. Consolidated the trail planner into one unified card per day combining mileage, food, campsite, and weather, replacing the previous separate section cards. Added collapse/expand toggles to each daily planning card so users can hide finalized days and keep long trips tidy. Added a "Copy to Day N+1" button on each day card that pre-fills the next day with the same meals and mileage as a starting point. Updated the Shared Plans page to display the same unified Day-by-Day card structure as the planner. Deleted all AI-generated and test-generated reviews from the Site Reviews and Trail Reviews pages. Added automatic cleanup hooks to all review test files so test-inserted reviews are deleted after every test run and never persist to the live site. Fixed the trail card header layout on mobile so the trail name always appears on its own line below the rank badge and action buttons in both collapsed and expanded states. Added an auth gate modal that requires all visitors to log in or create a SoulPak account before accessing any features on the site. Added localStorage persistence so search filters and active trip plans survive page refreshes and tab closures. Added a two-column Free vs Pro onboarding panel directly under the welcome message showing what each tier includes, with the Pro column visible to free users as an upgrade preview. Added 7 animated skeleton placeholder cards that appear instantly when a trail search is triggered, eliminating the blank-screen wait. Built a My Trips page accessible from the top nav where users can view, expand, and delete all saved trip plans, with a "Save Trip" button added to the planner. Added a mobile tabbed layout to the trail planner with Plan, Gear, and Export tabs so the planner is easy to navigate on a phone without excessive scrolling. Removed the Detailed Trail Finder from the Free plan onboarding column since that feature is Pro-only, and renumbered the remaining free features. ---
